We seek an experienced fundraising professional who is both passionate and persistent. This position oversees a diverse portfolio with room to grow in major gifts work. In conjunction with our Executive Director, this person will be one of the most public-facing members of the team.
The successful candidate will have at least three to four years of experience in engaging donors, funders, and sponsors. They will work closely with our Executive Director, Operations Manager, and Program staff, on fundraising tasks such as events, year-end campaigns, fundraising planning, and more. We are especially interested in someone who loves social justice work, has a passion for youth leadership, and wants to promote student voices with authenticity.
This role will help us stop turning away students who cannot afford our life-changing programs. Our current operating budget is $970K. Most of our revenue is program income and, as we have not had an experienced development professional before, we are looking to increase non-program revenue next year through the combination of: major gifts, annual appeals, monthly giving, events and grants.
Global Visionaries invites youth from diverse socio-economic, racial, and ethnic backgrounds to be active leaders in their local and global communities. We foster leadership skills grounded in environmental and social justice. GV serves over 200 students from the US and 100 students from Guatemala annually. Through youth-led retreats, workshops, service projects, and a two-week immersion in Guatemala, our participants report a new capacity to be agents of change.
Major Gifts 30% focus
We have 20 years of donor records to start creating major donor relationships. This position will prioritize donor segments based on giving history and capacity and start to build relationships. This position and ED will work together to set clear metrics for moves management. We will support this role to grow their major gifts skills and get major gifts training. Major Gifts Goal: Increase number of gifts over $2K by 5%
Events 30% focus
In conjunction with Program staff and Operations Manager, this role will be in charge of 2 events per year. One large gala event and one smaller breakfast event. This role will be responsible for sponsorship cultivation and follow up. In tandem with Executive Director, this position will coach students in how to tell their story in a compelling, succinct way to the community. In future years the events responsibilities of this role will shrink. Events Goals: Currently $140K in event revenue, looking to increase 5%. Currently sponsorship brings in $18.5K, we are looking to increase to $35K.
Individual Donor Cultivation and Retention 20% focus
Building relationships with the help of an Alumni Committee and Executive Director. Communicating in a variety of ways to cultivate and retain donors. Our priority will be re-engaging students and families from the last 5-15 years to come back and share their experiences as leaders and to celebrate them and the current group of students. This position will train program and operational staff to create a clear path to giving and stay on message. We will co-create donor retention and alumni engagement benchmarks together in Salesforce. Donor Stewardship Goal: Help GV realize a 5% increase in non-event related individual giving. Ultimate goal to create a seamless donor experience from identification to cultivation to ask.
Communications 10% focus
Supporting the Executive Director with completing annual online campaign, (GiveBig) monthly e-newsletters, annual report, annual appeal letters, monthly help with PR, networking and media. We would love someone who already has local media contacts.
Grants 10% focus
Supporting executive director on prospect research, grants, editing and grant applications. Fielding grant reports.
The ideal applicant will have the following qualifications:
– At least 3-4 years of proven development experience in the nonprofit sector,
preferably with significant foundation and major donor fundraising work or
– Experience creating a fundraising plan
– Strong communications skills to create newsletters, annual reports, and grant
– Excellent knowledge of technology and appropriate software including
Salesforce, MS Office, electronic communication, and online giving platforms
– Ability to work with in-house design person to produce print materials
– Ability to produce accurate and timely reports and do all follow-up necessary
to fulfill grant obligations
– Highly self-motivated, with the ability to manage multiple projects and work
according to specific deadlines
– Excellent written communication, research, and organizational skills
– Excellent interpersonal communication skills; excellent oral communication and
ability to participate in public speaking events
– Ability to address and resolve conflict in a professional, timely way
– Ability to delegate responsibility and ensure accountability
– Ability to train and supervise volunteers
– Ability to lead committees and volunteers to stay on track with revenue goals
– Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, as
– Ability to work effectively and respectfully with socio-economically,
racially, culturally, and linguistically diverse communities and individuals
Preferred but not required:
– Fluent Spanish speaker
– Experience living abroad
– Articulate on social justice and equity, able to see development work as a
means to build bridges that counter classism
